HomeMoving Guide
Move smarter

A practical GTA moving guide.

The goal is simple: fewer surprises, clearer expectations and a move request that covers the details before booking day.

Before requesting a quote

Get these six things together.

You do not need a perfect inventory. You do need enough detail to make a real planning conversation possible.

01 / DATE

Choose a target day

Note whether the date is fixed or flexible and include any elevator or closing-time constraints.

02 / ROUTE

Know both locations

Provide the pickup and destination area and identify extra stops before asking for pricing.

03 / ACCESS

Check the path

Stairs, elevators, parking, loading docks, narrow halls and long carries can affect planning.

04 / INVENTORY

List large items

Start with beds, sofas, dressers, tables, appliances, shelving and an estimated box count.

05 / SPECIAL ITEMS

Flag unusual pieces

Heavy, fragile, high-value or oversized items should be specifically discussed before booking.

06 / TERMS

Get it in writing

Ask for the rate structure, minimums, travel, materials, taxes, coverage and cancellation terms.

Before you book

Read the written quote—not just the total.

A low number is not useful if the terms are unclear. Make sure you understand what the quote includes and what could change the final amount.

  • Hourly, flat-rate or other pricing structure
  • Minimum billable time and travel charges
  • Materials, fuel, stairs or other applicable charges
  • Taxes and accepted payment terms
  • Protection, insurance or liability limits
  • Cancellation and rescheduling terms
Keep the confirmed written terms with you on moving day. If the scope changes, ask how the change affects pricing before agreeing to additional work.
Condo moves

Toronto buildings add their own moving rules.

If either location is a condo or apartment, contact the building early. Elevator reservations and loading access can be more important than the drive itself.

Elevator reservation

Confirm the booking window, padding requirements and where the moving crew is expected to enter.

P

Loading & parking

Check whether the truck needs a loading dock, permit, reserved space or concierge authorization.

Time limits

Some buildings set strict move windows. Include the deadline in your quote request.

Building paperwork

If management requires certificates, forms or advance details from the mover, flag that requirement before booking.

Make it useful

Build your request while the details are fresh.

The planner keeps everything in one clean summary you can copy, email or share.
